    • RE: Are shields overpowered?

      @The:

      Please.
      I don’t know if it still works in vanilla, but it sure as hell doesn’t work against those fucking spartans. You can kick all you like, by the time you strike with a katana, their shield is already back up.

      They need to fix this bullshit ASAP.

      This isn’t actually true. Regular kicks are just meant to create some space or allow your teammate to connect, but if you throw a power kick (hold the button down), it’ll stun him long enough to get free hit in. If it’s not, it’s because he lowered his shield and you connected with his chest.

      @chivalryinterested:

      I don’t understand why 150 ping is so bad in this game, its like its an underestimation, Ive played much faster paced games than this, and 150 ping is completely playable, like fast paced shooters that require much precision.
      150 ping is 150 milliseconds, that really isnt that much.

      Yes, it is. At 150ms you start running into all sorts of sync and parry issues. Shooters are a little more difficult to notice because of the way those games play, but a strike going straight through a parry is incredibly annoying, and starts happening regularly around 150 ping. Very noticeable, very bad for game play.

    • RE: BETA - Chivalry: Medieval Warfare Patch 25 (Barbarian Invasion)

      Guys, is seeing a guy dressed in fur running around every now and then alongside the Knights really going to break the game for you? Or even affect you beyond saying: “Oh, there’s a Barbarian. I personally don’t think he looks as good as the default skins.” If it makes TB money go keep working on the game, who really gives a flying fuck?

      Why are 95% of people talking about the new Barbarian skins and not about the fact that WE FINALLY HAVE NEW TEAM OBJECTIVE MAPS! I like the Barbarians, I like the weapons, I like the maps. Home run in my book, TB!

    • RE: Anyone else feel like this game is done?

      LMB is considerably more effective than other attacks for a few reasons. The biggest is that players move very, very fast. Straight line attacks are very situational because they’re much easier to miss than in Medieval Warfare, and therefore more punishable. Are they useless? No, of course not, and a few gems (like the Japanese swords’ alt overheads) can be worked very effectively into combat. But overall, the safest action, and therefore the most used, is to throw a big, reliable slash.

      I’m not even kind of disagreeing about untapped potential. I think one big patch could completely reinvigorate the game.

      @Oy:

      A good player does well regardless of mechanical differences between the two games. Like Ako said, there may be more noobs in DW, but the new mechanics mix well with high-skill fights to create really fun DW-only moments. More noobs doesn’t mean noobier game.

      No, but a lower skill ceiling and less combat variety does create a noobier game. I think very few people would disagree that Deadliest Warrior rewards basic LMB spamming far more than Medieval Warfare.

    • RE: What I think Leveling System should be.

      @Iron-Sentinel:

      Excellent explanations, Never thought of it that way.

      I guess what I’m really trying to get after is this:

      There’s a bunch of videos on youtube on advance tactics, like mouse delaying/acceleration, ducking, dancing, using stab to go around parries and blocks.
      Thats all fin and dandy, but what I truly whant to know is how do I DEFEND against those tactics? The majority of players do those kind of things I just mentioned, so how do I defend it?

      Two tips I can give as a somewhat-above-average player:

      1. Don’t be twitchy. If you block as soon as you think you’re getting attacked, you’re going to get hit by every feint and drag someone throws at you. Wait until the weapon is about to hit you before you block, and remember that the new camera makes attacks look farther away than they actually are.

      2. Aim your parries. This was something I screwed up constantly when I was a new player. I’d just throw a parry in the general direction of the attack. This works just fine against big two handers, but if you try this against the Norse Sword they’ll go right around you. Overcompensate if anything, especially on stabs. Crouching while blocking helps too, it’ll prevent attacks (especially stabs) from sliding under/to the side your block.

      Also: PLAY DUELS. Seriously, you’ll notice the results quickly.

      @Ako17:

      PS: the title of this thread pisses me off every time I see it. Do people forget early MW builds?

      The difference is, even with some extremely spotty mechanics (including some that have never left), from day 1 Medieval Warfare has created an extremely unique environment for players to fight in. It’s not perfect, but it’s extremely compelling, and the combat is what creates its fan base.

      Deadliest Warrior? No, not so much. It’s a sloppy, low skill version of the same thing. If it had been released first, it may have done well, but I still think it wouldn’t have done as well as Medieval Warfare. Not that it’s supposed to, as a DLC, but there’s currently very little reason to play it over the base game. “Done” may have been slight exaggerated though, I’ll give you that. Let’s go with “done until a MASSIVE overhaul to the game takes place.” Because as much as I’ve criticized this game, it’s not all bad. The new classes truly are a cool addition to the game, and a few of the maps are pretty good.

    • RE: Painted Helmet Option

      This would be a great unlockable, you could integrate it into DLC helmets so that they could be painted too. Not even a super high unlock level, maybe 20? Not so far that it seems vastly out of reach for newbies, but far enough that you can take a bit of pride in it.

      @Kimiko:

      When I did the Friday Updates, I think people really appreciated them, because it gave them some kind of insight of what was to come. I enjoyed doing them as well, but there comes a point when there isn’t that much info to give out and it would either be repetitive or sometimes people would say “This was worthy of an update?” etc etc. Can’t please everyone. That being said, I think regardless, that the Friday Updates were useful when there were things to say and it really gives them a chance to give a bit more to the community. It’s something that I think they should bring back, maybe in a different way that suits their style, but it’s a direction they need to return to. It’s more important to be involved with your community than out of it, in my opinion.

      A great compromise would be a Friday Update/Q&A thread, where TB both posts status updates and answers questions that were submitted by the community.
