This reminds me, maybe i should make a unique thread for it… but why cant MAA dodge with throwing knives or tomahawk equipped? ?

RE: Opinions on a new archer weapon?
^^^ someone definitely needs to make a “streets of rage” mod. Maybe you’ve played this game, but it was one of my favorites at the arcade growing up. Imagine, everyone starts with fists. All about the level are various melee weapons like pipes, crowbars, knives, batons, etc. There are also pistols, sawed off shotguns, etc (all with limited ammo, maybe just whatever is in the gun so less than a full magazine). I could see this working with halo style levels where the weapons are placed in strategic locations.
I could see this being sooo awesome
Let Slingers Punch
I am fond of punching people in the face, and I also enjoy hurling pebbles at the enemy as I dip and dodge around the battlefield. I think it would be amazing if I could punch while I had the sling equipped, and I dont see any reason why I couldn’t. I imagine the only limitations are in realm of programming and code, instead of the rules that govern ‘reality.’
great game, thank you so much.
RE: [KNIGHT] Type all tricks here to kill a 1337 MAA as knight
fighting an MMA as a knight, the key is distance. Keep him at then end of your sword. Once the MMA closes to the ‘in your face’ stage, he will start comboing like crazy and you will need to be on your feet with the parrys. HINT: DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN. Watch the MAA’s feet. If you two are doing the dance of death, watch to see when he begins to move forward. As soon as you see the MAA is moving in to strike, you need so throw out a LMB attack. If you can anticipate when he will come in to strike, you will have him every time.
What to do when you and the MAA are at the ‘in your face’ stage, you will need to throw out a kick, most likely. This is a great way to get some distance. Chances are you may have landed a strike on him at this point. If you have struck the MAA and you now are both at distance again, pull out your secondary and finish him off with haste.
Here’s another great tip. A lot of people assume that you and your opponent need to ‘trade’ blows. For some reason people assume that the order is, I strike, you strike, I strike, you strike, in rhythm. This is easily exploited, and no where does it say you need to maintain this order. I like to build that rhythm for a few exchanges, and then change it up, either by throwing out a quick follow up attack, OR delaying your own attack. Sometimes people will parry before I even respond, leaving them open and dead. OR they will decide to strike themselves, which also leaves them open to attack if you can time an attack to land before theirs.
RE: [KNIGHT] Furious Flailing
never overhand?? If you are confident you will land your strike, overhand is an excellent follow up. The flail’s strength is its speed and its sweep, you’re right that you need to combo, in my opinion you need to combo at all times. The overhand strike of the flail is ridiculously fast.
The key to flailing is defensive play (at least in my mind). It is a very defensive setup. As with all classes you need to pay attention and look for openings, and when they come exploit them with a flurry of strikes.
Remember to use your shield bash, its very important to get a little distance between you and a charging man at arms.
RE: Mentor/Mentee Program?
how is feinting a ‘cheap’ tactic? Sometimes its the only way to win vs certain play-styles and weapons. I see vanguards using feints a lot because of their slow attacks. Nothing cheap about feints, as it opens up the attacker to attack if the defender knows what he’s doing.
RE: PLEASE - Add a Campaign Mode
Oh you want singleplayer?? Helllll nahhhhh.
I thought when you said campaign you meant within the realm of the multiplayer game. It would be cool to have some more context to the fighting outside of just the tutorial. That I think is a great idea. But to waste time and resources implementing a SP aspect would not make sense imo, being that this is a multiplayer PvP game.
MaA is difficult because to be successful you have to play smart, smarter than any other class. Your low per-hit damage and low health makes this so.
My preferred setup for the MaA is to use the heater shield with the war axe. The shield give you a bit more survivability and allows you to go toe-to-toe with other players. The war axe is in my opinion the most balanced of the three axes, harder hitting than the hatchet and quicker than the dane axe.
When I say play smart this is what I mean. You have to chose your fights. The absolute number one rule I would say as MaA is to never go into a front lines, smash em up scenario. This is for knights and vanguards who have more health, armor, and reach. That isn’t to say you cant fight in groups or at the front. What you need to do is look for opportunities to strike in these situations. You have to wait for your opponent to expose himself, strike, and then withdraw before he has a chance to counter. Rinse, and repeat.
Alternatively, you can take the fight to your opponent but this is best for 1 v 1 scenarios. Your speed makes it easy to land a first hit on an enemy. I like to watch for when my opponent begins his strike, I stay out of range and then attack as soon as his sword passes in front of me, sprining forward and laying a 2 hit combo while he is still finishing his swing.
I rarely ever use dodge. When I do use it is to get myself out of an emergency situation if I get surprised by a previously unseen opponent or mess up in my fight and get hit.
So in summary MaA requires patience but it also requires aggression. It is all about knowing how to act and when. I would say 65% of the time as MaA you should be in a reactionary stance, waiting for your opponent to open himself up so you can get close and hammer his skull with your axe. The other 45% of the time you need to be aggressive, keeping your opponent guessing, nervous, and on his heels.
If you want to read more, here it goes. Use your speed to maneuver around the battlefield to find those situations where you have the advantage. Sun Tzu said something about only fighting when you know you have the upperhand, this applys to playing MaA. Run around and try to get to the flank of the enemy line, find the exposed and alone soldier, or escape to reach the enemies archers (my favorite thing to do).
RE: Any one else think the balance is pretty good right now?
Either I don’t understand the mechanic for shield blocking, it it’s somewhat off. Often the attackers weapon will go through the shield model and hit you. Also it seems like it’s much easier to hit around a shield from the right side compared to the left side, when it should be the opposite. I fail way more blocks with a shield than without, which is a shame because I really like the sword and board approach compared to only using a sword :)
Occasionally you will also see your weapon going straight through a playermodel without inflicting any damage on swings and stabs, however that may be lag. Speaking of lag, every 32+ server seems to suffer from everyone having 80-120 pings. This even happens if I play on a server thats physically within a few houndred kilometers of me. So fixing that would probably improve a lot :P
Also the javelin is horribly bugged. Many times the animation will get stuck in either idle or throw mode. Also you have to wait for the reload animation to complete before you can block, which seems illogical, and makes you hesitate to throw the javelin in close quarters which seems like the opposite thing the setup is meant for.
you still have to aim your blocks with the shield. Once I truly acknowledged that fact there have been few strikes I haven’t been able to defend. My motto with the shield is “more left than you think, higher than you think, lower than you think.” to defend against their slashes, overheads, and stabs.
also I love, love, looove squaring off with a vanguard using a spear or poleaxe. Its really easy to block their attacks so I just raise my shield and keep pressing at them. Usually after the first blow I am ready to land a strike of my own. Once you get up close to these vanguards its easy to finish them off.
RE: Parry dagger
Honestly, if you’re getting killed by an archer after he pulls out his 1h weapon you are to blame 100%. I think this mistake probably stems from being too aggressive. I have killed many foes with the shortsword as an archer but against a skilled opponent victory is a stroke of luck. Aggression is the only way to kill someone with any class but as archer it seems especially true. Once that opening presents itself archers tend to unload a flurry of strikes. This is a good strategy because it keeps their opponents on the ropes and plays into the speed of their strikes. Once you create a little bit of distance between you and the archer the battle is all but won.
Oh, and if I’m using a big, heavy, 2h like the double axe and I square off against an archer who has shown his skills in melee, I will draw my secondary weapon and take it from there. As a vanguard or knight you still have the advantage of health and armor and only need to lay 2 blows.
