    • RE: Chivalry: Medieval Warfare Patch 40

I agree the new Vanguard’s shoes look worse, and overall he doesn’t look as scary as before.

And have they changed how hitting works? When leaning into a strike, it would speed up before and hit your opponent faster. Now it feels like this isn’t working as it did before, leaning in or twisting hips into a shot seems to be less effective. Maybe I’m just imagining it.

    • RE: Laucher crashes

I have the same error as DarkavengeR, happens when I exit the game every time since recently.

For me, I can live with it because the game works fine. Just when I exit back to Windows I get “CDWLauncher has stopped responding”.

    • RE: CDW/CMW.exe errors

Since the last update, whenever I exit the game back to Windows, I get “CDWLauncher has stopped responding”. No big deal I suppose, since the actual game is fine, but I’ve never seen this before until now. There’s a white square in the middle of the screen when the error appears.

    • Why can't both players kill each other in a fight?

Often when someone kills me I manage to stab them one last time just as I am being killed. In that case, surely it follows that my final blow would sometimes kill my opponent, even if I was also killed? But that never happens, you never see both players die from each others hits. I’m guessing it’s the same with 2 archers? Their arrows both carrying deadly payloads, can two archers die from each others arrows?

    • Anyone else using custom keys - not WSAD? Loading screen fail…

      Hi,

Why does the loading screen assume I haven’t changed all the controls? That keyboard graphic shows me false information.

WSAD isn’t for everyone, it isn’t for me with my slightly larger hands. There’s no way in hell I’m squashing my fingers into WSAD.

I’m using A, Z, SHIFT, X for direction instead, ALT for sprint, SPACE for use, and a few other changes.

This layout is the original control layout pioneered in Terminator Future Shock - one of, if not the first 3D fps using a mouse as the control in a proper 3D environment. Even had small rolling hills, flying and driving. This is before Quake. Skynet came later with better levels and again used the A-Z, shift, X layout.

A,Z,Shift,X is more ergonomic than WSAD, and more comfortable. Your hands naturally rest on the A and Z keys, with plenty of room for the left direction on the Shift key. It takes getting used to, and isn’t for everyone, but I never get RSI, and I do ok in FPS games. Thumb hovers above ALT (sprint), index finger on Z (backwards), middle finger on A (forwards), ring finger on shift (left). My little finger does nothing but could press CTRL if mapped something there.

    • RE: Developers Q&A

@Goatamon, not that you’re totally wrong, because one person’s balance may be another’s imbalance. But I like the difficulty as is, it’s an incentive to coordinate. And I like the balance and long march to the swarming opposition.

I can’t see how “coordinated high level” attackers could be outclassed by noobs. Haven’t seen that myself.

The only flaw for me anyway, is that someone should be assigned to be the rallying coordinator/leader or somehow a place chosen to optionally meet up before launching a coordinated attack.

Team agreement to all meet up at a particular location, and WAIT for say 30 seconds for others to arrive, is not common, but it’s no surprise it isn’t. Teams of strangers and new players and ‘just arrived’ players will not readily coordinate. Incentive is needed, and assistance from the game. Not sure what incentive, which is why I was thinking team leader, and not obeying would be punishable or something. Soldiers to this day can’t just wander off without consequence. TO be honest, I think a lot of players need to be under orders, at least some of the time, to prevent noobs wandering off and so on. :-)

When the team meets up and all charges at once, it’s great fun. And it makes this game an instant classic.
