      Shouldn’t have used that in your argument then.

      There’s still a strong correlation between rank and skill. I was just using an example where the correlation was true and resulted in a very uneven match.

      Skill matchmaking doesn’t need to use rank. It can use other measures of skill. It just needs to happen.

      After playing 3 consecutive maps where the game decided to put 7 of 9 lvl 40+ players on one team, I’ve decided that until some sort of skill-based team balancing is implemented, I’m just going to spectate on heavily one-sided games or try to get on the winning team just to push for the next map as quickly as possible.

      Sorry for those that think I’m taking the coward’s way out, but I play to have fun and it’s not fun when every time you step out of spawn there’s three elite players ready to kill you in 2 seconds.

    • Can we PLEASE turn friendly fire off for Kings?

      I know you can kick people that are being assholes and intentionally TKing, but with the king it’s particularly bad because you only have ONE life, and by the time the vote is done and the person is kicked they have PLENTY of time to inflict significant damage on the king. I’ve been in several games where the king has died because he got low on health and some TKer came in and landed a couple hits with the maul.

      I just finished a game where I survived 11 minutes as king, there was 1 minute left in the game, and a couple TKers came in and starting wailing on me. Got them kicked but my health was down to 30%, and the other team saw an opening and finished me off.

      Can we PLEASE turn off friendly fire damage on the KING ONLY.

      Here’s a list of achievements I have that aren’t registering:

      What irks me the most is that most people don’t even care if they swing through teammates. I understand mistakes happen, I’ve killed teammates too, but I feel like a lot of TK’s would not happen if people played for the team and not themselves. I try my best to avoid jumping into other people’s fights unless I am absolutely sure I won’t hit a teammate (learn the reach of your weapon!).

      Also, and I think some veteran players will agree with me on this, if I’m fighting 1v1 I know what I’m doing and I don’t need your help. Occasionally I appreciate a well-placed hit, but most of the time, you distract me at best and get me killed at worst. Just wait 5 seconds and see what happens - if I win you can move on to the next person, and if I die, he’s all yours.

      A tip for shield users: if you’re fighting someone 1v1 and you see a teammate swinging a big weapon (usually a maul, it’s always a goddamn maul) from behind the enemy, RAISE YOUR SHIELD. You won’t take damage from your idiot teammate, and the enemy will be sandwiched with nowhere to go.

      I just did some testing with this on an empty server, level ground where we both had sub 40 ping. Getting kicked with shield down allows you to recover in time to block a dagger stab, every time. If kicked with shield up every weapon seems to get a free hit with the exception of zweihander horizontal swings and any maul attack. The zweihander can compensate to get a free hit if accelerated. The maul simply cannot get a free hit. With the maul stab the weapon animation always hits the stunned person before they can raise their shield, but it ghosts through them every time. I don’t think those numbers are an accurate reflection of the game at the moment, for whatever reason.

      This substantiates my point. You are pretty much guaranteed a free hit if you kick someone with the shield down. I just had a duel with an MaA where all he did was spam kick and swing, right after the other. Even when he kicked me with my shield down, as soon as I brought my shield up to block his follow-through he would facehug me and kick me again, leading to a free hit. It just seems like borderline exploitative tactics to me. The only way to counter those tactics is have perfect millisecond timing with raising and lowering the shield, where as he has virtually no risk to himself because I can’t attack without trading blows.

      I think someone brought up a good point.

      Shields are supposed to enhance your defense. There are already penalties associated with using a shield. Reduced vision, slower weapons, more stamina drain. In return for those sacrifices, we get an enhanced defensive capability.

      When you allow a kick (which should be unblockable) to lead to a free hit, you are not removing the defensive advantage of a shield, you are removing all defensive ability altogether. This is simply an unbalanced game mechanic.

      I understand there is a problem with turtling. There are ways around turtling. Swing from different angles, hammer away until their stamina drops. Occasionally you will run into the super-player who has an impenetrable shield defense, but it certainly isn’t too difficult to hit past a shield.

      This is ESPECIALLY true with MaA’s, because they have dodge and very fast, wide swings. MaA’s have the easiest time getting past a shield, and their hatchet can kill a knight in 2-3 shots. When you combine dodge, wide swings, quick swings, high damage AND THEN on top of that an unblockable kick-hit combo, it simply puts knights at a huge disadvantage to MaA’s regardless of skill.
