I’m sure it’s been said before, but just make it where you only take damage from it while you’re standing in where it was thrown. Boom, free damage but no where near as much free damage as before plus a greater emphasis on placement.
Knockback is fairly retardo on the Vanguard. Makes fighting on sloped surfaces a pain! I always believed the player should have to work to create space between him and his opponent, not some inconsistent mechanic which both plays out, and looks stupid as balls.
Still makes me laugh watching a Tower Knight fall out of the sky as a Vanguard’ Fork bends against the steel… I’m not laughing when it happens to me though!! :)
Definitely 100% reproducible. Attempt to join full server > get server full message > attempt to join any other server. Game will hang on loading box, then will crash, or if you attempt to press cancel, will crash.
A work around seems to be just to refresh the browser before attempting to join a different server.
Damn right I don’t play TO.
I cant stand the mentality of knowing you are just going to respawn in a few seconds if you choose to die.
I had 700 hours in duel mode alone last time I had the ability to check, though I don’t really play that too much anymore.
I’d like to play LTS more but the East/Central servers are almost always dead or filled with noobs who delay every fucking round or cry whenever you feint them after you make it past their seemingly endless stream of arrows.
We really need LTSO game modes.
If all of that was in your grasp, then how would you lose so much health to the point that you would have to fear 5 points of damage?
In a game of skill, why should you be allowed to not have any consequences for making mistakes and taking damage?
There is no downside to taking damage other than being closer to death and dealing with flinch where you can still parry.
The reason the hit trade meta is so bad in TO isn’t because of some arbitrary flinch time.
Its because everyone knows that they can almost always recover from a hit and survive, and if they don’t then they just respawn.
LTS and Duels are the only modes where people have any reason to try not to take any damage.
Besides, why can’t I just drop my weapon and fucking tackle you to the ground and bash your helmet in with my 15th Century Steel Gauntlets like they did in back in the good 'ol days?
I’d like to see someone parry that.
Or even just punch you in the face real quickly without having to deal with weapon switch times?
Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, we can just tweak weapon damage/resistances slightly to eliminate these specific situations.
There is no need at all to nerf kicks.
Also, in any game mode, I don’t care who you are, you are going to be low on health on multiple occasions.
They flinch in every state and are unblockable damage. That is just silly.
I forgot to say this in my other post but thank you so much for making the dedicated server stable,
like really stable great job.
I know im 1 of the few who run a dedi but I think it was a patch or 2 ago since then
I haven’t had 1 crash even with all the modding we are doing and that is awesome Torn Banner
that we have a stable dedicated server now cause before it was like 2 days max and crash so great improvement guys please keep up the stellar work.
I did say that if they fixed the animation, those two probably wouldn’t need to be touched. That being said, they (broad and norse) remain basically the two most used MAA options.
I recognize that the riposte animations for vanguard weapons are also poor, however, the 1h stabs are more of a problem in my opinion.
My problem with firepots is that they are literally a guaranteed hit that does pretty significant damage. I’d like to see them made harder to use as they require basically no aiming or timing, most MAA just spam them on the same spot.
Broad and norse remain the two most used because they are versatile at what they do while other MaA options aren’t as strong as the sword class. Dane axe has been nerfed (or better yet, fixed) into the ground, War Axe is decent but lacks the range of the swords. Quarterstaff is surprisingly good and the blunts HWS and Morning Star are still decent in their own right. Perhaps instead of nerfing the swords, the other weapons can be made more desirable? MaA lost a lot of weapon versatility with the removal of attacking during wind up and the substantial cool down on dodge. Not that I am saying we should return to these, but this is why the weapons feel lacking compared with the sword class the MaA has access to in my opinion.
And I would have to disagree about the shoddy animations of 1handers vs 2handers. The difference (mainly speed and animation) between the two are negligible because they are both extremely poorly animated, except 2handers have so much more damage and range and can be manipulated by dragging more effectively than one handers. The poorly animated award would have to be tied between the norse sword riposte and the claymore riposte. They are both blindingly fast and so poorly animated that the only difference between the two is damage and range where the claymore is only slightly better.
I don’t honestly mind about removing parry during recovery for MaA, it is rarely needed if you play smartly.
I use to swear by firepots, but now I’ve found having a shield in pubs to be better. Surviving against archers is better than maybe securing one or two kills per firepot which allows you to do more and rush around the battle, and less time sitting around regenerating from arrow hits. I’d say firepots are currently in a perfect state. They deal only a set amount of damage, leaves the user naked to projectiles and serve their purpose of area denial better than what they did before. Sure, a MaA can snipe with them from afar if they’re good, but firepots have one of the longer animations for when you equip them and throw them. If a MaA tries to do this at close range, or if you catch a MaA with a firepot equipped, then rushing him is almost a guaranteed kill as he cannot swap back to his weapons in time.
Never succefully used a feint with fist. Too fast for me XD
Anyway, Fist were OP long time ago. Or, more accurately, were better than dagger. Better reach and damage. That was fun, but kinda depressing.
Then I used them exclusively, was fun but pretty hard. Kill a guy ten time with them, and at the eleven fight he will remember he can parry… And insta fast parry and stuff are so annoying for fist users.
Anyway, now, the bubbles is just creeping me out. Lame players survive because the punch just get through them. Coward can’t be hit when they run away, their back is now immaterial…
(I really enjoy how my passive get useless =( )
While we’re at it, the Javelin stab tracer isn’t too hot either. It has a tendency to catch anyone standing on the right of you (standing either level or even slightly behind), and seems pretty ambivalent about hitting people in the middle of the screen.
The first person animation is a little misleading, the stab in fact comes in from the side (easily discernible in third person). It’ll only barely hit the center of your screen at the tail end of release.
The first person stab animation and the shield punch tracers are both on our bug tracker.
Definitely needs a better tutorial. They are the most important aspect of a game and the most neglected, unfortunately. Teaching your player through the game is better, but with Chivalry that might be a little harder. I envision messages coming up on screen to tell you what you did wrong (block further left! Hit impacted your left shoulder!) for your first 10 levels maybe, obviously with the ability to turn it off, but that would take some heavy scripting to cover all the possibilities and explanations for what just happened. Not easy at all.
There are also cases of rank jumping. I’m currently 40 when by all means I should be below 30 (skipped from 27 to 36 or so and then continued to raise through to 40 faster than I should). This is persistent btw.
Temporary reduction to rank 0 or rank 5 (strangly enough) seems also really common (happened to me quite a few times). The resetting of the unlocked weapons feels like it’s gotten less since the last hotfix, but it still happenend to me once.
Spot on, every point. Have you seen hexen’s recent video about the patch? It got moved to the community media forum so that no one would see it.
I did, I thought it was pretty funny when he talked about the chase mechanic. His reaction was basically exactly the same as mine, “Eh, doesn’t affect me”, haha. I totally agree with how this patch is frustrating as both a consumer and competitive player. In any case, my point was simply that people are being way, way too dramatic on both sides. The game is still fun, and I still love it at least. While I would love to see all of the dislikes I mentioned reverted, you don’t always get what you want. I’ll just continue to play and adapt, and support the promod for the times when I want the original experience.
