I’ve found parrying to be much more difficult since the patch. You have to look really far up or to the sides to block attacks now. If someone is facehugging you with a falchion or hatchet it often means having to look directly to the side/up. It’s really hard to defend against and I see a lot of people just facehugging and spamming slash as their main strategy. Coupled with the shield nerf the game is just much more spammy and attack based. I enjoyed fighting much more before the patch tbh.

All of a sudden when someone attacks at point blank you have to look directly to the side / straight up to block when it wasnt like that before. Most MAAs don’t even use dodge any more. They just facehug and swing spam because of how difficult it is to defend against. Coupled with the crippling shield nerf it’s like the game has gotten insanely spammy. TO matches are all over the place and combat generally feels like a mess compared to pre patch.
Am I crazy? Tell me I’m not the only one?

They’re the hardest class to play both as and against. Probably the most bugged weapons in the game too.

The game takes place in a rebuilt post apocalyptic society thousands of years in the future. The paintings are just surviving relics of our civilization which have been hoarded by the nobles who own that castle.

Balance is kind of an iffy topic though. Balance for what? Vangaurds might be awful at duelling and weak in a clan scrim, but in public games absolutely nothing racks up kills like a slash spamming vanguard.

I’m using right shift. I can move around with [ (forward) and ; (left) while hold down shift but if I go into a sprint ; just stops working. The ini tweak took care of the console though thanks.
You seem quite knowledgeable so I may as well ask something else as well instead of starting a new thread. Every time I start the game it launches in 1280x1024 even though my max res is 1920x1080. I change it to the correct resolution in options but it never remembers the change on my next launch. I tried changing resx and resy to the correct values in udksystemsettings.ini but it didn’t make any difference. Any suggestion?
I’m left handed and would like to move the keybinds to be mirrored on the right side of the keyboard in order to make them omre ergonomic and easy to play with. What I’m trying for is [;’# instead of wasd with sprint on right shift and feint on p. It makes sense because with the default controls I have to take my index of of A to sprint and lose a bit of movement control. However the new binds just arent working properly.

Is there any way to fix this? I could move the new wasd 1 key over but it’d make crouching much more of a stretch.
Rebind slash from lmb without moving shoot?
Slash is the most useless of the 3 buttons imo and I would rather have stab on lmb, but I can’t move slash without archer shoot and vanguard charge going with it. Using scroll wheel up for shooting bows is rather unintuitive and it can’t hold shots before releasing.
I gather that it is possible to do some advanced bindings by editing the UDKInput.ini file so would it be possible to tell it to keep shoot and charge on lmb with stab? Can’t seem to figure it out on my own.

It does really really suck. This happens to me all the time as MAA. I think your best bet might just be to disengage and find a different fight. Hunt down some archers or flank someone. You are the fastest class in the game after all.
I think that the slash spamming is something that will be difficult to find a good solution for. FF is definitely needed in this game. Without it the spam would get even more out of control.

I’m still in the stage of playing everything to unlock all the weapons and get to grips with the game. I random class in most matches. My favourite so far is definitely MAA with falchion or war axe. Using dash to land big hits kind of lets me avoid the combat system I suck at. :p

Why game so hard
i understand the mechanics but am having a hard time getting them to work for me
if i get parried im obviously at a disadvantage and will lose to their counter attack if i try to attack
but if i parry them and counter attack myself most of the time their second swing beats me anyway
if i feint at a parry and attack again to punish they usually recover in time to block again anyway
no matter how smart i try to play i just lose to people who mindlessly spam left click with vanguard
what am i doing wrong? why do the mechanics work for everyone else but not me? how do you beat swing spammers anyway? because parry doesnt seem to provide any kind of counter.

I can’t really get into it without the ability to cycle through players, see their names, see their health, watch from first person or watch from third person without the camera shaking. Hopefully the features are added soon like they should have been like 2 years before they launched the game.

It definitely seems like the best archer option to me. The whole awkward and clunky aim toggle of crossbows kind of kills them for anything but sniping like a useless twit. Javelins just don’t have the range. May as well be a knight with throwing axes tbh.
Improve / Fix the server browser.
The server browser is extremely buggy and lacking in functionality. Here are some of the things which are wrong with it.
- cant view game mode without filtering
- the friend tab doesn’t work
- joining a friend’s game through the steam interface doesn’t work unless the game is closed
- the lack of a queue system makes joining specific servers extremely difficult
- the player count gives a false readout for many servers (32 man servers with 3 players displaying as full)
I feel that the server list should be bought up to an acceptable industry standard before any balancing or additional content is produced for the core game. It’s issues detract from the overall polish of the product and are extremely frustrating to work around as anyone who has attempted to play with a friend can testify.

Everything is too buggy especially the server browser. The friend tab doesn’t work, you can’t join a friend’s game through the steam interface unless you close the game first and the player numbers displayed in the server list seemingly have nothing to do with the amount of players who are actually playing on any server. Also weapon changing is confusing and often doesn’t work properly with shields randomly disappearing and weapons becoming stuck. I frequently get caught on parts of ground I should be able to run over. My resolution is reset every time I start the game and rebinding the I key (for reloading and picking up ammo) doesn’t work.
All in all the atmosphere is hilarious and the combat is incredibly fun but the game is lacking the level of polish I’d expect from a released game. All of the weird glitches that pop up are jarring, take me out of the game and make It feel like I’m playing a mod instead of a standalone title.
