This sprinting thing has been in the game all along…I dunno what suddenly now it’s getting so much attention when all the strongest players I’ve faced have always been using it.
I play archer mostly, and in my games, when I parry a 2 hand weapon, I always get knocked back. I have enough time to run up and counter-attack while they recover, but I always start out of range. However, if a vanguard does an immediate turn around into a sprint, they can recover and attack again before I get in range. If the player is good enough, I will never be able to hit them because each attack that I parry will continue to knock me back. I have even played against a player or two that I suspect were aim-botting because their blind turnaround thrust accuracy was suspiciously inhuman (100% accurate, and could turn about 230 degrees while sprint-attacking to hit me).
I was very frustrated by this for a long time, but I’ve come to realize that if I also back up as soon as they do, I can create enough space to move back and find friends. If you have javelin and retreat as well as they do, you can get a free javelin toss at them that is an easy hit. As an above poster said, you can simply not chase and allow them to stamina drain themselves.
Without it, I could easily block and attack and then approach them with a feint, meaning that in general, I (as an archer) would have the advantage, which is not right at all. Also, if you gimp sprinting, everyone will be slower and more easily hit with arrows and other projectiles.
As for sprinting circles around people; this is pretty much what makes 1-hand weapons viable against the super fast overheads of the 2 hand weapons in group fights.
Sprinting around has been in the game this whole time and if you are familiar with it, it isn’t broken or OP at all, just frustrating. Especailly when your team is bad and get’s pwned by one or two people.
