@wilt So you’ve clearly not played any, but you make unfounded assumptions on a feedback thread? And you wonder why the Chivalry community is notorious for being a toxic cesspool.

RE: Taurant GreatSword Animation Feedback
@reithur Disjointed, in a nutshell. Can’t really nail down anything specific, but it reminds me of Tinker’s animation problems, only slightly more so. Know that isn’t too helpful, but yeah. Seems like hitboxes lead or lag the actual sword itself.
RE: I am gaining rank, but not xp nor rewards
@x3mslayer You are getting credited for your experience during this time. You can actually see your level increase in the menu screen, at the bottom right. I haven’t been shown to get any xp for two days now, but I’ve gone from level 50-60 in that time.
RE: Problems with the competitive scene survey
Glad to see this post, even if it is just because I’m still sore about the poor balance changes.
I’ve come to the conclusion balance changes end up in the negative - that is, in the long haul, balance changes are always end up making a game worse in the end than better. I quit playing all my favorite games because they eventually screw up the game with bad patching. Except for 2142, and that’s because they never really touched the balance (which was basically perfect, but I digress)
RE: Poll: Combo-feint-to-Parry
Keep it the way it is now. A move that allows you to make up for any mistake is ridicolous and shouldn’t be in the game.
Except that panic parry is literally a move to make up for mistakes, just alot easier then CftP and every noobie can do it by just mashing right mouse button after a miss without even knowing the mechanics.
Spamming attacks IE combo spamming without thought it not skillful, if you are going to miss then don’t combo. The current system helps add a reason to not always combo, prepatch there was no reason not to besides having zero stamina. Attacking prepatch was the more defensive option, because you bypassed recovery. You must attack to be defensive. How does that make sense?
Well the current system pretty much is a “1 attack dont combo” meta, especially looking at the viable competitive weapons. I dont know if thats any better, especially coupled with how broken man at arms is right now and how many weapons are total crap because of this change.
I always thought it was skillfull to 1vN while having to combo feint parry and aim your parries to survive. The current system is harder, but not because people got better or something like that, but because the game restricts you now artificially.
I dont know whats skillfull about panic parry. Nothing.
All of this. Panic parry requires nothing but a right click, whereas CftP requires advanced planning and timing. Much more skillful. The current mechanics are so bad it is hard to enjoy the game much anymore.
RE: Wish list for a better Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
Old Stamina system
Old Feint system
Redo weapon balance from july patch
Old Chase mechanic
Might disagree about bubble, but everything else exactly. Still bummed Promod fell through since TBS doesn’t seem inclined to make decent balance changes anymore….
RE: Game is dying
To be fair, I thought TBS was doing quite a good job all the way up until they announced Deadliest Warrior. Now they’ve went dark, offering no communication to their community so a bunch of people just said, “eff this, I’m out.” Can you blame them?
Customization was a cool update until we realized how many bugs they introduced and even then it was still okay until we found out they were going to take nearly a month to put fixes into the beta to address what they broke. Even before they moved into the covetous office they were quicker at addressing issues like these. Top that off with unnecessary additions accompanying the paltry few bugfixes that took a month to only make it to the beta, such as the completely unnecessary crosshair mechanic and ruined Agatha customization colors. It became clear they shifting focus to the yet-to-be-released Deadliest Warrior going full steam whilst leaving our cherished MW in the dust.
To say nothing of the atrocious Mason ‘Red and Ugly Grey!’
Seriously tho, ever since the patch with panic parry the game has gone downhill fast. Which is really too bad.
RE: Why is Mason's black color a gray now?
It really is disheartening - every new patch that comes out makes me and my friends much less inclined to play Chivalry.
Seriously TBS, what are you doing? There wasn’t a problem with colors to begin with. Mason has ALWAYS been red and BLACK. There’s even a voice line in game referring to it. The grey is much less distinguishable, and it looks retarded to boot.
RE: So what happened to all the balance council members?
I’d say Promod but Promod seems to be faltering; I’m personally just hoping panic parry gets removed and CftP get restored. Then balance will be ok to be left alone
RE: Archer Arrow Mechanics
If you want realistic heavy crossbow would 1 shot anyone through their shield AND plate mail.
Is that what you want.
But in all seriousness, the projectile speed, while slower than IRL, is fine. They buffed it a second time this last patch, while it was fine after the first buff. Game balance for bows and xbows is about right now, except maybe Warbow Bodkins, but that is debatable.
RE: Knight Weaponry
I agree with NaTe, Jstorm, and SOC.
The only area I differ in is that I now think Messer is a tad too strong. I always liked it best of the three swords, but it seems extraordinarily strong for its range and speed. I feel like it demolishes everything while outranging 1 hands and being fast enough to beat out polearms. The numbers may disagree, but regardless playing Messer Knight now seems absurdly easy.
Also, I hate the new mechanics.
RE: Parry Type [POLL]
Didn’t the cf2p require significantly more accurate timing to pull off than panic parry? Correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t really know.
Also cf2p doesn’t also include the combo feint into fast attack does it? Because that was obviously too powerful.
Yes. You had to queue the parry, so there was a delay, and you were still vulnerable for a bit. You had to be planning on parrying ahead of time, instead of just doing it out of the blue because you screwed up. It separated the scrubs from the good players because 1) you had to know the mechanic and 2) you had to plan ahead.
What bothers me is the removal of CFTP and how that essentially makes it impossible to be as effective versus multiple players as before. I also find the game has less to do with reactions, and more to do with spamming combos and dodging attacks, hoping against hope you will get parried before you need to parry.
So much. I miss being able to take on three guys because of good playing.
RE: Daggars, bearded axe, HWS, and polearms are awful.
Daggers are a a lot more dodgy now post patches, I agree. With that said though, they are extremely easy to sidestep and/or backpeddle out of their range. A sneaky drag will also catch the archer out and decimate him.
If you cannot sidestep the Archer you have to be on your A game to parry them, the Thrusting dagger’s overhead now is really hard to block, it looks like it wraps over your weapon, even if you have a parry up.
Bearded Axe is also another weapon that’s extremely easy to evade. As long as you don’t get too close to allow for lookdowns, you should be fine.
If you do get too close, try to strafe as much as possible, the weapon is so fast that most people can’t aim it correctly.
This weapon depends on a few things. If you have a bad connection and/or the server is laggy, it’ll be VERY hard to effectively fight against it. Otherwise you just have to be very sharp with your parrying.
Polearms… basic issue with these is lookdown instant overheads. Please just rid the damn collisino bubble, it’s awful and not even fixing the issue it set out to fix… so why keep it in the game? Instead remove hit tracers from the handle of weapons which tons of people have been suggesting.
All of this mixed with swings that go though people, through parries, desyncs, all the other bugs existing… there is a LOT wrong with the game right now.
I know TB is going to start working on their new expansion/ new game/ w/e… but PLEASE for the love of chivalry, fix chivalry. It’s broken in SO MANY WAYS… check the bug reports.
It’s been there since day one and it probably will always remain unfortunately. Though surely it couldn’t be too difficult to remove the tracers from the handle but I am not trained in game design so I have no idea.
Desyncs have returned with a vengeance for me this latest patch. I’m unsure if servers are still settling in to the new update (shouldn’t be but who knows.)
I really do hope TB can still churn out some more patches in a reasonable time frame, I will still always prefer it when it was pre super “balance” patch, but I still can have fun now.
All of this. And lookdown overheads, while kind of retarded, are easy enough to block once you’ve dealt with them a few times. Sounds like you just need to practice more.
Daggers, especially, are much harder to hit with now. I think they are fine; I haven’t been killed by one since the patch, and I’m having a tougher time killing with them now.
RE: Dear, Dearest Devs - Please remove panic parry
Everyone I know hates the mechanic. It has severely screwed up the combat flow of the game, since you can no longer effectively punish a mis-timed swing. There’s workarounds, of course, but the whole combat system is much less elegant, as another poster said.
Essentially, it allows a poorer player to compete with a player that is better than him, and encourage stamina drain so that you get a free hit. The main complain with PP is that is has sorely screwed with parry timings - I still get parries that aren’t timed correctly because of the stupid mechanic.
Combo feint to parry was much better because it rewarded good play. Yes, it was more versatile, and harder to see, but that’s the point. You still had to queue the parry beforehand, and you had to learn the technique in the first place. It required a bit of planning ahead, instead of “Oh crap, I missed my shot, good thing I can still block!”. I’m still parrying ahead of time because I queue it up as a CftP, only to realize the parry overrides the recovery now. So, I parry way too soon and get hit because I was prepared ahead of time. How is something that encourages dumber play a good feature?
RE: Remove broadsword/falchion/Norse sword from MaAs
Yes, I was joking about removing swords from MaAs. But I would like to see a rapier/thin sword weapon tier for MaAs. I think they would look great with them and it would enhance their duelist playstyle.
I really like the idea, but the nature of rapiers, epees, and foils makes it hard to justify in game. While they’d be ultra cool, it would kind of break game immersion even more, wouldn’t you think?
RE: Shield Knights
As SHH said, the best buff to shields in my opinion would be to let them passively block - and to let shield bashes actually block too, instead of just being a reanimated kick.
Before changing stamina drains tho I’d like to see the panic parry feature removed, since that coincided with all of the new wacky stamina drains. Supposedly all the shield stamina values haven’t changed, so removing that awful feature might restore shields to a decent state.
RE: The "Panic Parry" Mechanic is Bad
To be honest, the panic parry ruins the game for me. In a game where people already complained that feints were used to much, this mechanic completely removes good footwork from the game. Things like making an awesome duck to get the upper hand in a fight are meaningless now as the opposing player can just instantly parry after his/her miss.
Missed swings in general are not penalized anymore other than a stamina cost. Stamina cost rarely matters in a game this fast paced. By the time you get someones stamina down from them doing panic parries, their teammate has already bashed you in the back of the head. There is a severe lack of consequence right now.
Where before fights came down to footwork, feinting, and dragging, it now just comes down to feinting and dragging. It’s also just frustrating after successfully causing an opening only for it to mean absolutely nothing because of a magic “fix my mistake” button.
It hurts the game and adds nothing to it. There are no upsides.
PS: collision radius is still causing problems and needs a lot of work.
Agreed. I would be fine if both were gone, as I abuse combo and feinting a bit too much, but the panic parry is just awful. It saves people from being punished for bad timing, and those of us used to queuing parry get screwed when we accidentally panic parry way ahead of time instead of delayed when we want to.
Spot on. It is extremely frustrating to have people saved from obvious, obvious mistakes in timing and footwork by spamming the parry button. Can I still kill them? Sure, but many times this prolongs the fight long enough that their teammates can come and bail them out. And as I dislike feinting, this mechanic unfortunately puts a greater emphasis on feinting if you want to end fights at all quickly.
Also Nova, I have said it many times, am I sad that CFTP was removed? Yes. But I have absolutely no problem adapting and moving on. The addition of parry in recovery adds nothing to the game except for frustration. I don’t care about CFTP anymore, but parry in recovery is a bad mechanic.
