I like the idea of a deployable wooden pavise, although it should be limited in its number/or created from multiple pieces (just imagining everyone running around with enormous wooden shields…o.0).
Also I kind of don’t like buffing since there is a real advantage while seeing your commander slay your foes/ fighting beneath your noble banner/ fighting in a group with your comrades.
Though I guess if these benefits are too small it wouldn’t hurt to “push” them a little bit…
About the supportive class:
How about a class which has more possible ways around the map. It would be a scout like person small and athletic enough to get through precut holes, narrow passages or climb small walls.
This way he could try to break enemy fire from behind/take strategic points/open gates( or doors)/ pass down ropes(or ladders). Of course he shouldn’t be very strong in actual combat and there is always the danger of him becoming a “ninja”…
But if this could be avoided then I think it’s a possibly fun/useful and convincing class.
About the Commander: Maybe this shouldn’t be a normal class, but I think a possibility would be to make this some kind of ‘award’ for the best player of the last match/some random player a the start of a match or the best player in the match at halftime could respawn as Commander.
It should be possible to recognize and identify the commander even from several meters away instantly!
in terms a of capabilities, he should be practically the same as before (maybe just a little better armor for him to not die before someone even noticed him^^).
But as you see him from several meters away you would think: “My commander! I should stay alongside him because then I’d have a better chance to survive”/“My Commander! I should cover him because he can do real damage to our enemies!”
Because of this players would rally around him/ focus on him creating a more effective task force.
Depending on the situation/map maybe he could also have some special task to fulfill (like only he could capture strategic points/declare the castle conqueredwelcome the reinforcements etc.). But that depends…^^
